Salvation Army Musicians Shine at OU Symphony Band Concert

The University of Oklahoma Symphony Band kicked off their Spring semester with a fantastic opening concert. We are very proud of Jacob Mitchell and Christi Wans of the Oklahoma City Citadel, as both of them performed on this special evening of music. Please enjoy this video of the concert!

Jacob Mitchell is a music major in his second year at OU. Jacob grew up in the Tulsa Citadel, and began attending the OKC Citadel when he began his studies at OU. He played on Vincent Perishetti’s classic Divertimento for Band, Op. 42 (1950). They also performed two more recent works from up-and-coming composer David Biedenbender, entitled Unquiet Hours (2017), and Stomp (2009). Mr. Biedenbender was in attendance for the concert, making this a particularly special evening.

Christi Wans was the featured soloist on the concert, performing James M. Stephenson’s Concerto for Piccolo Trumpet and Wind Ensemble (2016). She gave an outstanding performance of this modern work. She is a professional trumpet player in the OKC area, and specializes in piccolo trumpet and other high trumpets. She has recently begun attending the OKC Citadel, and plays soprano cornet in the OKC Citadel Band. Christi is currently pursuing her DMA in trumpet performance at OU.

We are very proud of Christi and Jacob, and we hope you are as well!
