OKC Citadel Summer School of Music and Arts
The Oklahoma City Citadel held an incredibly successful School of Music and Arts this year! Majors Chris and Heidi Farrell hired Christi Wans, a doctoral student at the University of Oklahoma and soldier of the OKC Citadel, to run the program. Christi and Majors Farrell designed a safe and socially distanced program that met every Tuesday and Thursday evening this summer. They had over 30 students who studied brass, percussion, piano, dance, guitar, and photography.
On a typical evening, students met in their classes at 5:30 PM. At 6:00 PM they were served a home-cooked meal made by Christi and her staff. The students then proceeded to a fun musical activity and devotional from 6:20 to 6:50 PM. These activities included making homemade guitars, drums, and horns! The students were also treated to a panel of professional musicians from the OKC area who spoke about the different career paths a musician can take. The devotionals at the end of activities presented the Gospel and challenged the students to live their lives for the Lord.
Christi, Majors Farrell, staff, volunteers, students, and parents should be thanked for all that they did to make this program excellent. If you would like to view the final concert, the link can be found below.
